Law School of Nankai University Held 7th Summer Seminar on Criminal Law Successfully

 From Aug. 24th to 27th, 2022, the 7th Summer Seminar on Criminal Law of Nankai University Law School was successfully held online. This summer seminar was jointly organized by Nankai University Law School and Tianjin Law Society Criminal Law Branch, and co-organized by PKULAW.com Classes. The theme of the seminar is "Criminal Law Methodology: Teaching and Learning". 558 students from nearly 100 universities in China and abroad applied for the seminar and 200 registrations were accepted.


The first lecture of this summer seminar was entitled "The 'Study Team' Model of Law Teaching", which was delivered by Professor Wang Zhiyuan, Vice Dean of Criminal Justice School, China University of Political Science and Law. He introduced the results achieved by the study team and summarized the key points of participation in study team learning.


The second lecture was entitled "Type Thinking and its Development in Criminal Law". delivered by Professor Du Yu, Vice Dean of Fudan University Law School. He took the rise of type thinking as the starting point and pointed out the wide application of type thinking in natural and social sciences.


The third lecture was entitled "The Case Analysis of Joint Criminality", delivered by Professor Wang Gang, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of Tsinghua University Law School. He introduced the two theoretical models of joint criminality, brought out the debate between the theory of joint criminality and the theory of joint conduct. He finally showed the application of the aforementioned analytical models in specific cases.


The fourth lecture, themed "The Logic of Criminal Judicial Interpretation in Practice", was delivered by Dr. Yu Haisong, Director of the Criminal Division of the Research Office of the Supreme People's Court. He introduced what judicial interpretation is, and argued that judicial interpretation should take legal provisions seriously and integrate the functionality and modesty of criminal law.


The fifth lecture was entitled "Cases and Criminal Law Research in the Internet Era", delivered by Associate Professor Zou Bingjian from Nankai University Law School. He gave a lecture on his observations and thoughts on case studies in the Internet Era.


The sixth lecture was entitled "Defenses in Common Criminal Law", delivered by Professor Liu Shixin from Nankai University Law School. He introduced the concept of defenses and the principle of belief, and their theoretical significance.


The live and replay videos of the six lectures of this summer seminar have attracted more than 23,000 online viewers, enhancing the influence of Nankai University's criminal law discipline. So far, the 7th Summer Seminar on Criminal Law of Nankai University Law School has come to a successful end!
