Theoretical Seminar on "The Development of Rule of Law in Chinese-type Modernization" and the First Study Session of Nankai Law School were Successfully Held

On Oct. 27th, 2022, Nankai University Law School organized a theoretical seminar on "The Development of Rule of Law in Chinese-type Modernization" and the first study session of Nankai Law School, in which more than 20 experts and scholars from Nankai University participated.


"Chinese-type Modernization" is an original scientific concept of the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and a key word throughout the report of the 20th Party Congress. In order to thoroughly study, interpret and propagate the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and promote the theoretical research related to "the modernization of China's system and capacity for governance on the track of rule of law", the seminar was held.

The opening ceremony of the seminar was hosted by Cui Manshun, Secretary of CPC Committee, Law School, Nankai University. Wang Zhuanyun, Director of Platform and Think Tank Office, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences Research, Nankai University, and Professor Song Hualin, Dean of Nankai University Law School, attended the meeting and delivered speeches.


Wang Zhuanyun gave an in-depth interpretation of the report of the 20th CPC National Congress on "rule of law" and "law-based governance of the country", and expressed his appreciation to the Law School for organizing experts and scholars to study and interpret the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress at the first time. He also fully affirmed the series of achievements of the Law School in recent years. He wished the seminar a complete success and expected that through this event, the Law School would further increase its academic capacity, enhance its ability to respond to national strategic needs and further highlight its role as a think tank of legal talents.


Professor Song Hualin pointed out that the proposal of Chinese modernization has put forward a new proposition of the times for law teaching and research, and law research should be based on theory on the one hand, and pay attention to social reality, respond to social reality, and answer the questions of the times on the other hand.


The first unit of the conference was chaired by Professor Yan Erbao, Vice Dean of Nankai University Law School, and six experts and scholars gave their keynote reports. Professor Fu Shicheng focused on the theme of "Several Issues of Legal Education and Rule of Law Talent Cultivation - Reflections Based on Nankai Law Education". Prof. Wang Bin presented on the topic of "Understanding the Scientific Concept of Chinese Modernization". Professor Tu Zhenyu focused on the theme of "The Transformation of Rights in the Era of Whole Process People's Democracy". Prof. Song Hualin spoke on the topic of "Institutional Exploration of Modernization about Administrative Rule of Law in Chinese Style". Prof. Liu Shixin focused on the topic of "Chinese Modernization and the Construction of Criminal Rule of Law in the New Era". Prof. Yang Wenge spoke on the topic of "Chinese Modernization and the Progress of Human Rights Protection in Criminal Justice".

The second session was chaired by Prof. Zhang Hongbo from Nankai University Law School, and six experts and scholars gave their keynote presentations. Professor Shi Xueying spoke on the theme of "Chinese Modernization and the Construction of the Rule of Law about Ecological Civilization". Prof. Chen Bing shared his views on the theme of "Promoting the Healthy Development of Platform Economy and Common Prosperity for All ". Professor Zhu Jingan delivered a speech on the theme of "Chinese Modernization and the Improvement of Foreign-related Rule of Law". Prof. Cheng Baoku focused on the theme of "Rule of Law Guarantee for Opening-door to the Outside World". Prof. Bai Jiayu's presentation was entitled "The Rule of Law of Sea in Chinese Modernization". Professor Yu Yuhe delivered the speech on "The Historical Development of the Rule of Law Concept of CPC".


Professor Wang Qiangjun, Vice Dean of Nankai University Law School, concluded the seminar. He pointed out that the seminar reflected the great concern of all the faculty and students of the law school for the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. In the future, all students and faculty members should further strengthen the systematic study and research of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress in their study and work. In terms of theoretical exploration, interdisciplinary understanding should be enhanced, and the ability to analyze problems from multiple perspectives within law should be strengthened, and the ability to respond to real-life problems by combining law with other disciplines should be highlighted. He encouraged the faculty of the Law School to take teaching as the key grasp to carry out the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress into teaching and research activities, and to lead students to actively participate in the process of Chinese rule of law, in the construction of Chinese modernization, and in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
