The First Phase of "Nankai Criminal Law · Academic Salon" Successfully Held: Discussion on the Revision of Article 241 of the Criminal Law

On Feb. 13rd, 2022, the first phase of "Nankai Criminal Law · Academic Salon" was successfully held online. The theme of this academic salon was "Whether Article 241 of the Criminal Law needs to be revised". In this event, Professor Che Hao, Vice Dean of Peking University Law School, was specially invited as the commentator. Four doctoral students, Zuo Zhiming, Zou Hongjian, Wang Zhenshuo and Qian Ritong, were invited as the reporters. Professor Liu Shixin, Professor Zhang Xinxiang, Associate Professor Wang Qiangjun and Assistant Professor Kui Jia were invited as the speakers. Associate Professor Zou Bingjian was the moderator. Vice Dean Liu Shixin and Vice Dean Song Hualin delivered speeches at the opening stage. More than 150 teachers and students gathered in online to participate in this meeting.


Professor Zhang Xinxiang argued that the improvement of crimes related to buying abducted women and children is not a simple question of whether the statutory punishment should be moderately improved or maintained, but a series of issues including the existing legislative model. In the question session, three students consulted Professor Che Hao about the integration of doctrinal jurisprudence & social jurisprudence in specific cases, the methodology of legislation and justice, and the way to improve law enforcement at the grass roots. Professor Che Hao answered them in detail one by one.


In the conclusion part, Zhang Xin expressed sincere thanks to Professor Che Hao for his arrival and the participation of all teachers and students. She pointed out that the academic community's attention to social hot spots is a booster of the rule of law in China. The original intention of Nankai Criminal Law Academic Salon is to hope that participants can have a deeper understanding of theoretical and practical issues in the discussion of social hot spots.
