On Nov. 4th2021, lecturer Sun Jingchao from the School of Law gave a lecture on "Rules and Intentions of Essay Writing of law". Sun Jingchao provided pertinent guidance on essay writing skills for freshmen students who are new to essay writing, focusing on the rules and ideas of legal writing.
Lecturer Sun answered questionsmainly about the concept, rules and ideas of essay writing for the freshman students. Sun pointed out that the legal thesis covers the argument writing of legal issues, but also the practical writing commonly used in judicial practice. In the essay writing rules, Sun pointed out that the legal argumentessay includes four different standard,“college-level standard”, “university-level standard”, “National standard” and“International Standard”, and explained one by one.
Sun Jingchao said, “The advantage of a good paper lies not in word count, but in the discussion.” Then she discussed the idea of the paper with the students in depth, from the difference between propositions, problems and topics. Then she interpreted the ways and signs of propositions. In Q&A part, participants actively asked questions on the paper reference citation format and so on. To write a good paper, students need to explore in theory, but also need in practice.Through the nearly-two-hour lectureof legal writing, freshmen all had a deeper understanding of legal writing.We hope the students can actively study the essay writing skills for the future writing and further their legal study.
